Problem Solved

Users with custom streaming lists faced clunky, unintuitive interfaces. Stream Weaver* was created to offer a polished, Netflix-like experience, transforming raw content lists into a browsable, high-end media library.

Market Opportunity

As a production-ready Android TV application, Stream Weaver* can be white-labeled for content creators or licensed as a premium player for existing services, offering immediate entry into the connected TV market.

Description

Stream Weaver* is an Android TV app that ingests user-provided lists to stream TV, movies, and live content, presenting it in a familiar, intuitive interface inspired by leading streaming platforms.

Development Process

The goal for Stream Weaver* was to build an interface that felt both premium and instantly familiar. We adopted an agile process, working in focused sprints to build and refine the user experience based on feedback from a closed group of beta testers. This iterative cycle was crucial for perfecting the "lean-back" TV viewing experience.

The application is a native Android TV app built with Kotlin, but it is powered by a robust backend built with Node.js and a secure cloud ecosystem. We used a flexible NoSQL database to manage user data and content metadata, and enterprise-grade cloud storage for assets like custom posters. This architecture ensures the application is not only beautiful on the front-end but also scalable and secure on the back-end. Our flexible parsing engine was developed through this iterative process, ensuring it could handle diverse list formats while automatically enriching the user's library.

Key Features

  • Flexible Parsing Engine: Ingests and processes various list formats automatically.
  • Automatic Metadata Enrichment: Fetches posters, descriptions, and ratings for content.
  • Native Android TV Experience: Optimized for "lean-back" viewing with a remote-friendly UI.
  • User Profile & Watchlist Management: Personalized libraries and watch history for multiple users.

Use Case Examples

  • An independent film studio white-labels the app to launch their own streaming service.
  • A content curator offers a premium, ad-free viewing experience for their followers.
  • A media company uses the app to provide employees with access to an internal video library.

Future Development

  • Expansion to other TV platforms like Apple TV, Roku, and Fire TV.
  • Integration of a recommendation engine based on viewing history.
  • Support for live-streaming events and linear TV channels.
